Mass finishing is a surface finishing process used mainly for metallic work pieces. When finishing bulk materials, the work pieces are placed inside a process drum together with a grinding or polishing medium and a normally aqueous mixture (compound). The oscillating or rotary motion of the drum creates relative motion between the work piece and the process media. Heavy work pieces that cannot be finished as bulk materials are processed in stream finishing or drag finishing machines. In this machine type the work pieces are clamped in holders during finishing. Work pieces are clamped in holders and dragged through a grinding or polishing medium. For polishing, grinding and high-precision edge rounding.

Work pieces are moved through a stream of grinding or polishing medium, i.e. both the work pieces and the process drum rotate. The SF offers very short finishing times and can easily be automated or integrated into a production line.

For finishing inlying surfaces much faster than with conventional tub vibrators.
